Installation & Updates

Whether you are setting up a brand-new shop or updating an existing one — this section has a guide for each case. For updates, Gambio ships three different package types; which one you need depends on which version you are coming from and where you want to update to.

Which package do I need?

Package Purpose Example
New Installation Setting up a brand-new shop fresh GX26 setup
Service Pack Small update from the immediately preceding version 26.05.0 → 26.06.0
Update Package Update across multiple versions, including very old shops 2.0.7c – 26.05.0 → 26.06.0
Master Update Major version jump to a new main version 4.8.0.0 – 4.9.6.1 → 5.0.0.0

Rule of thumb

  • You are setting up a new shop? → New Installation
  • You are only one version behind? → Service Pack
  • You are skipping several versions? → Update Package
  • You are changing the major version (e.g. 4.x → 5.0)? → Master Update

What applies to all packages

Regardless of the package type, these ground rules always apply:

Before every update

  • Create a backup! Back up all files and folders of the shop as well as the shop database. Without a backup, old data may be irrecoverably lost.
  • Check module compatibility: the installation replaces files — custom modifications are lost. Make sure third-party modules and extensions are compatible with the target version.
  • Log in to the Gambio Admin before you start the installation.

System requirements depend on the target version — the exact PHP, MySQL and MariaDB requirements and the required PHP extensions of every version are listed in its Release Notes.

Good to know

The shop is automatically switched to offline mode during the installation and back online after successful completion.

Procedure at a glance

All update package types follow the same basic procedure:

  1. Backup — files and database
  2. Upload files via FTP — contents of the Shopsystem/Dateien directory into the shop's root directory
  3. Update PDFCreator and Filemanager — if included in the package
  4. Update the database — via www.example.com/gambio_updater
  5. Update robots.txt and .htaccess
  6. Clear the browser cache
