New Installation¶
This guide describes the fresh installation of a Gambio shop (GX26) — from uploading the files through the Gambio Installer to the add-on modules.
1. Requirements¶
System requirements:
- at least 120 MB of web space
- a domain
- GDlib 2 or newer
- smtp, sendmail or mail
- the exact PHP, MySQL and MariaDB requirements of the target version are listed in its Release Notes
Have ready for the installation:
- credentials for your FTP server
- credentials for an empty MySQL database
- an FTP client (e.g. FileZilla)
- the Gambio GX26 software package (ZIP archive)
2. Shop system¶
2.1 Extracting the installation package¶
After downloading the Gambio GX26 software package, extract the ZIP archive on your computer. On Windows, simply right-click the archive and choose Extract all; a separate ZIP program such as 7-Zip or WinRAR works as well.
Attention
On Microsoft Windows, the path length limitation can cause problems when extracting or copying the shop files. Therefore, extract all files into a folder as high up in the directory tree as possible, e.g. C:\Gambio.
After extracting, switch to the GX_v26.x.x directory. There you will find the manual, this installation guide, the free FTP client FileZilla, the shop system files in the Shopsystem directory, and the add-on modules ResponsiveFilemanager and PdfCreator.
Attention
The ResponsiveFilemanager module is required for certain shop functions and must therefore be installed.
2.2 Transferring files and directories to the FTP server¶
Start your FTP client and connect to the FTP server. Switch to the directory where you want to install your shop — we recommend the root directory of your domain. Common names for the root directory are html, httpdocs or www; if none of these are shown, you are usually already in the root directory. If you are unsure, contact your hosting provider.
Upload all files and folders from the GX_v26.x.x\Shopsystem\Dateien directory into the installation directory on your FTP server (select everything with Ctrl+A). Depending on the server and internet connection, this can take several minutes.
2.3 Running the Gambio Installer¶
Open your new online shop via your domain. On the first call you are automatically redirected to the installation routine. If not, open it directly via the /gambio_installer suffix (e.g. https://www.example.com/gambio_installer). The installation routine is available in German and English — select the desired language via the buttons.
Setting file permissions: before the installation, the file and directory permissions of some shop files must be set to 777. Depending on the server configuration, the installation routine handles this automatically. In some cases you are asked for your FTP credentials: enter them, click Verbinden (connect), select the root directory of your shop in the Remote Konsole window and click Rechte setzen (set permissions). After the success message, continue via Installation fortfahren.
Note
If the connection or setting the permissions fails, you can make the changes manually — the list of affected files and folders is under Troubleshooting. Then use Rechte erneut prüfen (re-check permissions) to verify everything is correct and continue the installation via Installation fortfahren.
Database information: enter the MySQL credentials — mind upper and lower case. With correct credentials the text fields turn green; with errors they turn red.
Note
Do not mix up database credentials and FTP credentials! The database server is often specified as localhost — but this differs from hoster to hoster. Your hoster's support can tell you exactly.
Shop information: the address field is already pre-filled. We recommend installing the shop via www.example.com (with your own domain), provided a corresponding redirect is set up by your hosting provider. If you already have an SSL certificate, change the setting in the dropdown from http:// to https://.
SSL recommended
We expressly recommend setting up and using an SSL certificate so that your shop is reachable via HTTPS and your customers' data is not transmitted unprotected.
Attention
If no SSL certificate exists, you can no longer log in to your online shop with SSL enabled. SSL support can be enabled later at any time.
Start the automated database configuration via Shopeinrichtung starten. In the next step, create a main administrator account via the E-Mail and Passwort fields. Use a secure password of at least eight characters with upper and lower case letters, numbers and, if applicable, special characters — ideally from a password generator.
Complete the routine via Shopeinrichtung abschließen. In the last step, download the automatically generated robots.txt and upload it via FTP into the root directory of your domain. Finally, open your shop via Zum Shop.
Congratulations, your new online shop is now installed! Finally, change the file permissions of the following files to 444 via FTP:
admin/includes/configure.php
admin/includes/configure.org.php
includes/configure.php
includes/configure.org.php
3. PDF-Creator (optional)¶
Installing the PdfCreator add-on module is optional. It lets you generate PDF invoices and delivery notes directly from your online shop; it also provides legal content as a PDF attachment for the order confirmation. Upload the PdfCreator folder from your computer into the root directory of the shop on the FTP server (recognizable by the admin and cache folders).
4. Filemanager¶
The file manager lets you access the shop directory from within the Gambio Admin. Its installation is required. Upload the entire ResponsiveFilemanager folder (not just its contents) into the root directory of your shop.
5. Troubleshooting¶
Attention
The following steps are only necessary if permission errors occurred during the installation. For other problems with the installation routine, contact Technical Support at info@gambio.de — include the data listed under Requirements in the Have ready for the installation section.
